In this case study, we proudly present the remarkable advantages FiBAR® brings to the table, specifically focusing on the structural integrity, longevity, and sustainability it offers to projects. Our client- consultant, Jiwani Construma Pvt. Ltd., undertook the construction of an underground storage tank in Silvasa, with a capacity of approximately 166 cubic meters. Following the principles outlined in ACI 440 code for structural design, the project incorporated FiBAR® to optimize its performance.


One of the key highlights of FiBAR® is its superior resistance to corrosion, making it an ideal choice for humid environments prone to moisture-induced corrosion, unlike traditional steel rebar. By reinforcing the retaining wall and raft slab of the storage tank with FiBAR®, the client not only enhanced its durability and strength but also achieved a lightweight structure. This innovative approach aligns perfectly with the industry's increasing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.

In the project, a 300mm thick concrete retaining wall and raft slab were reinforced with FiBAR®, boasting a diameter one size lower than traditionally used steel rebar. Despite the reduced diameter, FiBAR® exhibited double the strength of TMT rebar, ensuring long-term reliability and minimizing maintenance requirements. The FiBAR® used in both horizontal and vertical directions measured 10mm in diameter. Overall, approximately 1125 kg of FiBAR® was utilized, significantly reducing the weight of the structure.

Thanks to the lightweight FiBAR®, the handling and transportation of rebar coils were streamlined, enabling efficient project execution within a short timeframe. By leveraging FiBAR®, we effectively addressed the challenges associated with steel corrosion & related deterioration issues in the storage tank.
